How to Draw a Ferris Wheel – let’s Get Initiated!
Step 1
Before we get started with this guide on how to draw a Ferris wheel, there are a few drawing tools you’ll want to have on hand to make it that much easier for you. These tools will include a ruler, drawing compass, and light pencil. Don’t worry if you don’t have any of these on hand, as we’ll still be able to create the drawing without them.
When you’re keen, draw a little circle surrounded by a bigger one. You can draw these rings freehand or with your drawing compass. Then draw four small circles on the outer circle for the screws that hold it together. Using your ruler, you can draw two pillars from diagonal angles from these circles. This will lead to a three-level base like our reference image. Finish off by drawing a few more round posts along the two pillars, and then we’re good to go.
Step 2
This second step of drawing the Ferris wheel is where you’ll benefit from using the compass and drawing pencil we mentioned earlier. If you have these tools, use them to draw multiple circles with the two circles from step 1 as their center.
We’ll use a pencil for now, as we’ll draw the Ferris wheel seats on top of them in a later step. Make sure these circles don’t over the previous step’s pillars. If you don’t have a drawing compass, try to draw the circles slowly and carefully. It doesn’t matter if they aren’t perfect circles!
Step 3
We’ll use our rules again for this step of our guide on how to draw a Ferris wheel. Using your ruler, you’ll draw several straight lines extending from the center of the Ferris wheel and out to create a pattern that looks a bit like a spider’s web. These will then connect to the seats of the Ferris wheel. Just try to replicate the lines as they appear in the reference image, and then we can start adding the seats in the next step.
Step 4
Now it’s time to start adding some seats to your drawing of the Ferris wheel. These small compartments will look identical and have a rounded bottom half with a flat roof. Each line you drew from the center of the Ferris wheel will have one of these compartments attached to it. For now, we will only draw chariots for the bottom half of the Ferris wheel. We’ll add the rest in the next step, so when it’s ready, we can continue!
Step 5
Before we color this drawing in the final step of this guide on drawing a Ferris wheel, we will finish the final elements. First, we’ll continue what we started in the previous step and add the rest of the seat compartments.
These will go on the rest of the lines to fill the top half of the wheel of fortune. Once you’ve added these, you can use your pen to review the center circles’ pencil lines from earlier. Then you can add more details and fun elements! Maybe you could draw more carnival rides in the background or people sitting on the Ferris wheel.
Step 6
We will close this guide by finishing your Ferris wheel drawing with unique colors! In our reference image, we used lots of bright colors to fit in with the carnival vibe of this Ferris wheel. This is a drawing where you could have a lot of fun incorporating your favorite colors! Certain art mediums would work, such as acrylic tints and colored tags. Great for this image, as you can achieve some bright and vibrant colors. However, whatever you wear will look amazing in its way, so how do you feel about this image?
